Graduating from Northwest Early College High School is a big moment for Shelby Hamil. Though she will miss Northwest, Shelby is looking forward to earning her bachelor’s degree at UTEP in just two years, as she already earned her associate’s degree, then going to law school.
“Northwest was really such a great community,” she said. “This overall was a great experience for me. I really enjoyed it.”
Shelby says that Northwest offers students such an amazing opportunity because they can earn an associate’s degree before graduating high school. The community at Northwest is unique because it is a small school, offering more individual support and her classmates were all very driven.
“It was all about that hard work. Make sure you’re putting the time. I learned so many skills like time management. I learned how to actually study for the first time. I know how to take college classes. I know how education works. And overall, the teachers were great – phenomenal. They helped me out.”
After graduating from UTEP, Shelby plans on becoming a lawyer and practice business law.
“I plan to help companies be able to function well and advise them. That’s something I really enjoy doing – helping people. And that’s one way I think I can do that.”
