As we navigate our daily responsibilities and the weight of important decisions, it's crucial to pause and celebrate the achievements and milestones within our district. Amidst the challenges we face, our students and staff continue to inspire us with their resilience, dedication and boundless spirit.
This week, I am delighted to share some remarkable achievements and moments of triumph that highlight the unwavering strength and passion that define our Canutillo ISD family.
First, I am thrilled to announce that four of our talented student musicians from the CISD School of Music have qualified for the state competition following their exceptional performances at the UIL Regional Solo and Ensemble competition. Anahi Gomez and Julia Hoover, members of our choir, received first division ratings and will proudly represent Canutillo at the state level in May. Similarly, Nallely Sandoval and Brandon Lara, members of our band, earned first division ratings and will join Anahi and Julia at the state competition. I would also like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Leyla Vasquez and Vanessa Gomez for their outstanding performances in the band, receiving first division ratings as well. Their dedication, talent and passion for music exemplify the excellence that defines Canutillo ISD.
In addition to our musical accomplishments, I am delighted to share the heartwarming news of a remarkable celebration of life and community at Reyes Elementary. Fourth-grade student Marco Holguin and fourth-grade teacher Monica Cereceres celebrated their cancer-free diagnoses this week by organizing a school-wide blood drive that attracted dozens of people from throughout the community. Their courage, resilience and unwavering commitment to helping others serve as a shining example of the indomitable spirit that unites us all. Congratulations to Marco and Ms. Cereceres on this wonderful news, and thank you for your dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
On the court, our Canutillo High School Boys Basketball team continues to soar to new heights, clinching victory in their last home game of the season and securing their spot in the playoffs. Led by Coach Morales, our Eagles are set to face Hanks in the bi-district championship game at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. I extend my best wishes to Coach Morales and the entire team as they embark on this exciting journey and represent Canutillo with pride and determination.
Meanwhile, Alderete Middle School hosted its inaugural Salsa Competition during parent-teacher conferences this Wednesday—a flavorful celebration of culture, community and culinary creativity. Staff members showcased their homemade salsas, inviting visiting parents to taste and rate the spicy sauces. Congratulations to the winners: Teacher Crisantelma Ontiveros in the green category, Teaching Aide Jorge Valenzuela in the red category and Counselor Michelle Belli in the pico de gallo category. Your culinary talents and community spirit truly embody the essence of Alderete Middle School.
Lastly, mark your calendars for an evening of laughter and entertainment as the Canutillo Stage Players present the Ken Ludwig comedy "Lend Me a Tenor" at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the CHS Auditorium. Join us in supporting our young actors as they take to the stage and showcase their talent and creativity.
As we reflect on these moments of achievement, camaraderie, and celebration, let us take pride in the extraordinary accomplishments of our students and staff. Their dedication, passion and unwavering commitment to excellence inspire us all and remind us of the boundless potential that resides within each of us.
