Dear Canutillo Community,
As we approach the commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, it is a moment not just for reflection, but for action. This day, celebrated on the third Monday of January each year, is not only a tribute to Dr. King’s enduring legacy but also a call to service – an invitation to each of us to contribute positively to our community.
Dr. King once said, “Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'” This question resonates profoundly with our values here at Canutillo ISD. Service, in its many forms, is at the heart of what we do and who we are. It is a concept that goes beyond the confines of a single day. It is woven into the fabric of our daily lives.
In Canutillo ISD, we are incredibly proud of our legacy of service. Our students, who annually dedicate thousands of hours to community service, embody the spirit of giving and civic responsibility. From organizing food drives to volunteering at local charities, their commitment to making a positive impact is inspiring. Their actions are a testament to the values we strive to instill in our educational journey.
Equally commendable is the dedication of our teachers, who consistently go above and beyond in their service. Their commitment is not just limited to the classroom, they extend their support and resources to help our children in numerous ways. Their unwavering dedication plays a crucial role in shaping the caring and community-oriented nature of our students.
Our administrators, too, play a vital role in this culture of service. Many serve on community boards, work with elected officials, and participate on boards of directors, contributing their expertise and insight to assist our nonprofits and other entities in serving our citizens better. This commitment at various levels ensures that the spirit of service permeates throughout our district.
I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the extraordinary leadership and service of our seven elected Canutillo ISD board members and our two student advisors. Month after month, these dedicated individuals give tirelessly of themselves, making decisions and providing guidance that continually propels our district forward. Their contributions are invaluable, and we are profoundly grateful for their service.
As we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day, let us remember that service comes in many forms. Whether it is through participation in church activities, volunteering at schools and senior centers, or contributing to food banks, every act of service, no matter how small, contributes to the betterment of our community. Each of us has the opportunity to make a difference, to be that change we wish to see in the world.
This year, as you reflect on Dr. King’s message of equality, justice, and service, I encourage you to seek out ways to contribute to our community. Look for opportunities to volunteer and help those in need. Every effort counts, and together, we can continue to build a community that embodies the ideals that Dr. King championed.
Please remember that Canutillo ISD will be closed on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I urge you to use this time not just as a break from our regular schedule, but as a chance to actively look for and engage in opportunities to serve. Let’s honor Dr. King’s legacy by dedicating ourselves to service and to each other.
