Change on the Horizon

Superintendent Galaviz Dear Canutillo Community,

What would you do for your children if you had an additional $19 million?

This is not a hypothetical question, it is a stark reality we face every year as our district experiences a significant loss due to students choosing neighboring schools over Canutillo. The reasons are varied, ranging from convenience to aesthetics, but the bottom line is that we are losing $19 million annually by not having these students enrolled in our schools.

We understand that parents want neighborhood schools that provide modern learning spaces. The current layout of our schools, clustered around the historic Canutillo, doesn't efficiently serve our fast-growing areas. Additionally, our schools are nearly 30 years old on average, showing signs of wear and tear that impact the quality of education we can offer.

It is with great excitement that I share the news that our Board of Trustees has taken a crucial step to address these challenges. This week, they unanimously voted to establish the Facilities Assessment Committee, a group that will play a vital role in determining the state of our schools and suggesting appropriate next steps.

The Facilities Assessment Committee is not just another bureaucratic entity, it is a collaborative effort, involving parents, taxpayers, community members and other stakeholders who share a special interest in seeing our schools succeed. By bringing together diverse perspectives, we aim to create a comprehensive understanding of our district's needs, both present and future.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Board of Trustees for their unwavering commitment to the well-being and success of our students. Their unanimous vote to create this committee underscores the shared vision we have for the future of Canutillo Independent School District.

As the Facilities Assessment Committee begins its work, we anticipate gaining valuable insights into the condition of our schools and identifying areas for improvement. This information will guide us in making informed decisions to enhance the learning environment for our students. We understand the importance of modern, accessible, and aesthetically pleasing schools that cater to the evolving needs of our community.

Our promise to you, the Canutillo community, is one of transparency and collaboration. We will keep you informed every step of the way. Regular updates on the committee's progress, findings, and recommendations will be shared with you, ensuring that you are an integral part of the decision-making process.

Change is on the horizon, and together, we have the power to unlock the potential of Canutillo Independent School District. Let us envision a future where our children thrive in state-of-the-art facilities, equipped with the tools and resources they need to succeed in an ever-changing world.

Thank you for your continued support, trust, and commitment to the success of our students. Together, we can build a brighter future for Canutillo.
