Commendable Commitment

Superintendent Galaviz Dear Canutillo Community,

My administration has conducted a thorough study of out-bound transfers within our district and it has come to our attention that nearly 1,800 students, who reside within the boundaries of Canutillo ISD, have chosen to enroll in schools elsewhere. With our total enrollment standing at 5,900 students, this figure holds significant weight and prompts us to reflect on the factors influencing these decisions.

Over the past decade, we have observed a steady growth in our out-bound transfer rate. This trend raises concerns and prompts us to delve into the reasons behind this migration. Through conversations with parents and community members, it has become apparent that factors such as convenience, the absence of neighborhood schools, and the perceived condition of our campuses in comparison to neighboring districts have played a pivotal role in these decisions.

Understanding the impact of this out-bound transfer trend is crucial for us as an educational community. It not only affects our current enrollment but also poses challenges to the holistic development and cohesion of our district. We recognize the need for immediate attention and collaborative efforts to address these concerns and strengthen our educational foundation.

To tackle these challenges head-on, the Canutillo ISD Board of Trustees will be convening next week to discuss potential solutions and strategies. One proposal under consideration is to enlist the expertise and perspectives of a diverse group of stakeholders. This collective of community members, parents, educators, and representatives from various sectors will help us gain a deeper understanding of our options and guide us in making informed decisions.

Rest assured, the Board and the administration are committed to transparency throughout this process. We will keep you informed about the findings of the stakeholder group and any decisions that emerge from these deliberations. Your feedback and engagement are vital as we work together to shape the future of Canutillo ISD.

As we navigate these important discussions, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the resilience and dedication of our students, parents, and educators. Your commitment to the success of our schools and the well-being of our community is truly commendable.

As we enter the Holiday Season, I extend warm wishes for joy, happiness, and peace to each and every one of you. The traditions and celebrations in Canutillo ISD during this festive time are an integral part of our community spirit, and I eagerly look forward to the many performances and treats that make this season special.

Thank you for your continued support, and together, let us embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the betterment of Canutillo ISD.

Warm regards,

Pedro Galaviz
Superintendent of Schools
