Creating Safe Havens

Superintendent Galaviz Dear Canutillo Community,

Our commitment to providing a secure learning environment remains steadfast, and I want to share some updates regarding the implementation of Texas House Bill 3, which focuses on enhancing school safety. We are dedicated to ensuring that our campuses are safe havens where our students can learn, thrive, and grow without any concerns about their well-being. The new law mandates the presence of an armed police officer at every campus within the District, effective Sept. 1.

I am pleased to announce that Canutillo Independent School District is fully committed to complying with this legislation. In alignment with this commitment, we have recently welcomed two new fully-certified police officers to our team who will be stationed at different campuses across the District. These officers have been carefully selected to provide a sense of security while also fostering positive relationships with our students.

While we wholeheartedly embrace the objective of ensuring the safety of our educational community, I must acknowledge that the financial burden of implementing these additional security measures falls upon the District. Despite the fact that Governor Abbott and the Legislature did not allocate enough increased funding for school safety, our commitment to the well-being of our students and staff remains unwavering. We believe that the investment in enhanced safety measures is invaluable, as it reinforces our dedication to creating an environment in which every student can reach their full potential.

It is important to recognize that these changes are a reflection of our collective responsibility to prioritize the safety of our students. Our educators, administrators, support staff, parents and community members all play an integral role in upholding a secure and nurturing environment. By working together, we can ensure that our children receive an education in an atmosphere where they feel protected, valued and empowered.

As we continue to excel this academic year, I want to assure every parent, guardian and caregiver that your child's safety remains our highest priority. We are committed to open communication and transparency, and we will continue to keep you informed about any developments related to school safety and security. Our aim is to foster an environment of trust and collaboration that allows us to collectively address any concerns that may arise.

I want to express my sincere gratitude for your ongoing support. The Canutillo Independent School District is more than just an educational institution; it is a community united by a shared goal of nurturing the minds and futures of our children. Let us continue to work together to ensure that every student's journey is marked by safety, growth, and success.

Thank you for being an essential part of our Canutillo family.
