Dear Canutillo Community,
As we head into the weekend, it’s important to recognize the men in our community who have a hand in educating the children of Canutillo ISD. Sunday is Fathers Day and our District is fortunate to have a myriad of dads and dad-adjacent figures who go above and beyond in their efforts to care for and love the families that make up our District. Let’s honor these men as the critical part of the education equation they are.
Here in Canutillo, we are fortunate enough to count on the services of hundreds of fathers and father figures who teach and coach our students, maintain and clean our campuses, transport our kids to and from school and yes, even cook nutritious meals every day of the school year. As you can imagine, their contributions provide endless opportunities and create access to high quality educational services.
Much is said about the limited role dads play in the day-to-day rearing of children. Our society honors women and mothers as primary caregivers, and that custom is well deserved. But we can’t ignore the work men and fathers do as part of the formula of raising kids. We should remember that honoring dads does not mean we forget about moms.
Some of our kids are in the unfortunate situation of lacking a father. But, for the most part, that doesn’t mean they lack a father figure. When dad isn’t around, our family nucleus provides important stand-ins like grandfathers, uncles, older brothers and neighbors. Part of that extended community of men also indices our coaches and teachers who often spend more time with our kids during the day than we as parents do.
So as we close out this week and gather with our families this Sunday, let’s remember the amazing Canutillo dads who make it all happen. Thanks for making a huge difference, dads.
