Ask. Seek. Knock.

Superintendent Galaviz Dear Canutillo Community,

On Wednesday, the District celebrated the accomplishment and achievements of the Canutillo High School Class of 2023. On that day, nearly 400 students wore their caps and gowns to receive the diploma they worked so hard for. It was a great ceremony jam packed with parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, friends and extended families, all who came together to celebrate this magnificent rite of passage for our young students. The Canutillo Community now has new alumni to look up to and celebrate. Congrats to our graduates!

On that day, I had the pleasure of addressing our seniors and to try to provide some words of encouragement as they seek to find their way through the world. As I always do, I try to find a message that will resonate with them, as well as with the crowd that has gathered to see them walk the stage. Earlier this spring, as I was reading, I came across a Bible verse that spoke to me. The verse, I thought, has the perfect message for young people as they seek opportunities in life.

The verse can be found in the Book of Matthew and it reads:

“Ask, and it will be given to you.
Seek, and you will find.
Knock, and it will be opened for you.
For everyone who asks receives,
And the one who seeks finds,
And the one who knows it will be opened.”

I used the message behind this verse to empower our students to create their opportunities in this world by speaking up, paying attention and going after what they think is rightfully theirs. This world is ever changing and opportunities are few and far between, but we know that without enterprise and self-determination, these opportunities may not come easy for our children.

I am confident that our teachers have done a wonderful job of preparing our students for whatever is next after graduation. They have the knowledge they need or the tools that are required to attain the knowledge they will need. It is now up to them to put this knowledge and skills into practice.

Once again, congratulations Class of 2023. Now go out there to Ask, Seek and Knock.

June is not just the end of the school year. It is also Pride Month. I want to wish those who celebrate a wonderful Pride. Here in Canutillo we embrace the belief that all students should have the opportunity to learn in an environment that is welcoming and supportive.

Have a great weekend everyone!
