Best Weekend Ever

Message from the Superintendent Dear Canutillo Community,

Without a doubt, Canutillo ISD had one of its best weekends … ever! All weekend long I fielded calls and answered text messages from well wishers all over the country that recognized the great work that has been done by the students and staff in the District. I couldn’t be prouder to be the superintendent of this amazing organization.

The good news began on Friday when we got official notice from the Texas Education Agency that Canutillo ISD is once again an A-Rated School District. In case you’re keeping track, that’s back to back to back … three years in a row! Canutillo is the only district in Region 19 to have earned an A rating each of the last three years of accountability. This Triple A rating sends a clear message to the rest of El Paso that Canutillo is a District of innovation and high-quality education where students reach their academic goals with the help of top-notch teachers.

I want to take this time to recognize those CISD schools whose work and dedication earned them an A rating for their campus. Those schools are Canutillo Elementary, Bill Childress Elementary, Reyes Elementary and Northwest Early College. Congratulations!

The rest of our campuses earned either a reputable B rating with just one school earning a high C rating. We know we have some work to do in those schools and I’m confident the right leadership is in place to make great gains this school year.

The other great news we received this weekend was Saturday’s announcement that Canutillo Middle School’s Hector Juarez was named the 2023 Region 19 Secondary Teacher of Year. Mr. Juarez is the second CISD teacher to earn that honor in the last three years, and will now represent the El Paso region at the Texas Teacher of the Year contest. Mr. Juarez is a longtime CISD teacher who exemplifies the commitment to excellence that’s be one the trademark of instruction in our schools. He is passionate, caring and committed, and he serves as an example for all of us.

Congratulations, Mr. Juarez! And good luck at state!
