The Canutillo ISD Information Technology Services department completed the first phase of what will be the new Information Technology 5-year strategic plan. The goal of this session was to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) directly impacting the initiatives or services provided by the department.

This initial phase took into consideration the input from all the department staff members. CISD Technology Director Tony Flores said it is very important for them to also further classify and group each SWOT element into people, processes or technology.

“We believe that having the right combination and balance between those three elements inside the SWOT analysis is fundamental to drive change,” Flores said. “Technology is constantly changing thereby it is imperative that we prepare ourselves to provide the right services to support the District’s Mission and Vision.”

Building a strategic map will provide a visual representation of all individual strategies and their interdependencies to support the key strategies. Flores said the department will build the strategies that can help them transform the weaknesses to strengths, threats to opportunities and opportunities to future strengths. Different sources of information will be considered to build those strategies; from campus and department’s technology purchase history to industry benchmarks and best practices.
