Mission Statement

The Canutillo Independent School District's Advanced Academics programs will promote opportunities which fosters creative thinking, integrity, self-motivation and challenges its students to attain a level achievement that leads to post-secondary success.

Vision Statement

The Canutillo Independent School District’s Advanced Academics programs will encourage students to build on their talents, use their creativity, and become a leader among their peers.  Through this process we want all students in advanced academic courses to leave our district ready to take on the challenges of college and the world.

The 2020- 2021 school year is like no other school year your children or you have experienced.  The restrictions of COVID-19 have affected every aspect of our GT program.  Please feel rest assured that your child’s GT teacher is here to provide support to your child.  We will maintain a flexible approach to GT learning this school year.  If you are worried about your child please reach out to your campus GT teacher or counselor.  You may also contact me at

Remote Learning has affected our ability to identify, assess, and provide instructions to our GT population in the same way we have in past years. Having said that, we want to reassure you we will continue to provide GT Services. We have developed a plan so that all GT students will still receive GT services.   We will, of course, stay flexible to the needs of our students and their families and the changes occurring at our campuses due to restrictions of COVID-19.

We will have two testing windows this school year.

September 21 -October 2, 2020 we will test students in first through fifth grade who have been nominated for services and chose to return to in-person instruction.

January 5 - January 22, 2020 we will test students who chose remote learning for Fall 2020.  We are hopeful that the threat of COVID-19 will be gone and all students will be back for in-person instruction.  All kindergarten students will be screened for GT services as well.

Our number one priority will be keeping your children safe. Therefore, we are staying flexible with GT services and will amend procedures as needed to meet the needs of our community.  Likewise, the schedule for Pull-Out GT instruction will be determined at each campus in order to accommodate the needs of their unique situation.  Instruction may be in person or remote.
