CISD on COVID-19 Vaccines

Canutillo ISD (CISD) will continue to highly encourage all prevention strategies recommended by local, state, and national health authorities, including immunizations. CISD will also facilitate the access to immunizations to our entire community by hosting immunization events to all those who opt to get vaccinated. However, CISD does not mandate any student to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend school or participate in any extra-curricular activities.

Parents of students who participate in any sport or extracurricular activities are made aware that participation is considered a high-risk activity for COVID-19 transmission. Therefore, CISD highly encourages to be fully vaccinated prior to engaging in sports or extracurricular activities. Testing is also available for student athletes before games, regardless of vaccination status.

Staff are also highly encouraged to get vaccinated. However, it is not mandatory by CISD to be fully vaccinated to attend work or perform any work-related activities. Currently, up to 91% of staff are fully vaccinated.

Department of Public Health Updated Recommendations for School K -12 (12/03/2021)

The El Paso Department of Public Health continues to STRONGLY recommend that students, teachers, and staff in general wear any form of face covering while indoors to reduce the spread of the virus within schools and throughout our community. It is preferred that individuals wear a mask that is a medical grade or higher, when indoors.

DPH also recommend to follow the necessary precautions during the holidays by:

  • Limiting the audience attending holiday festivals
  • Divide and conduct group performances in separate rooms to avoid large crowds in the
    same indoor location
  • Choose an outdoor location, if possible
  • Strongly recommend all audiences to wear a face mask
  • Advice that anyone exhibiting any symptoms get tested and avoid attending the event
