Anniversaries

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

We all pause when anniversaries come around. Some anniversaries have positive connotations, like Independence Day. Others are negative, such as 9/11. But regardless of the emotions attached to these dates, we stop and reflect.

We have arrived upon the first anniversary of shutting down our school buildings due to the pandemic. Thinking back over the past year, I have mixed emotions. On one hand, I am deeply
saddened by the deaths of millions of people around the world from this horrible disease. It is heartbreaking to think of the grieving families in our community and throughout the globe.

On the other hand, I am the type of person who looks for a silver lining – a glimmer of hope in the midst of tragedy. This health crisis has brought us closer together than ever before. We
have realized that we truly need each other. And we have joined hands in CISD to make it all
work for our students.

We all have a greater appreciation for the fragile nature of life. We have a deeper gratitude for
each day we wake up to serve our community. Our love for our family and friends is even
stronger.

It is only human nature to forget these things when the storm passes. It is my sincere hope that
we will keep what we have learned from this ordeal firmly in our minds – that we hold a
renewed appreciation for life always in our hearts.

Enjoy your spring break, stay safe, and keep your loved ones close to your heart.
