Schools Reopening for In-person Instruction

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo Community,

Canutillo ISD is excited and prepared to welcome students back to campuses to continue their studies on Monday, September 14 in a phased-in approach designed to safely reopen schools. We will be serving those students whose parents opted to have them physically present at school. All others will continue to receive instruction remotely. Click here for specific start days and times.

Meals will be available in the Classroom, Curbside and Bus Deliveries
The Child Nutrition Department will be serving meals in the classroom for the students attending in person instruction. The meals will be individually packaged for each student per the CDC and health guidelines.

The Child Nutrition Department in collaboration with the Transportation Department will continue Meals on Wheels. Registered students attending via remote will be provided with bus stop deliveries starting at 10:30 am. In addition, the curbside option will continue at each campus from 10:45 am until 1:00 pm. Monday through Friday. Click here for specific information.

Bus Transportation
Transportation will be available to students returning to in person instruction starting September 14. Please remember to have your child at the bus stop a few minutes before the scheduled time. For the safety of your child and everyone around them, please remind your child about watching their distance and to always wear a mask. Students without a mask will not be allowed on the bus. We ask that students do not remove their mask during the duration of the bus ride.

In addition, bus drivers have been instructed to assign seats as necessary to ensure social distancing. We look forward to providing you with the best possible service. We ask for your patience as there might be delays or changes. Click here for schedule information.

Commitment Form
Parents were asked to commit to either a remote or in-person method of instruction for a 9-week grading period. Parents have the option of changing their child’s instruction choice prior to the next grading period. Remote learning will remain an option for the remainder of the school year.

  • The second 9 week grading period is Oct. 19 - Dec. 18, 2020.
  • The commitment form will be available for changes from Sept. 21 - Oct. 2.

This allows us to prepare classrooms to meet all safety requirements. Contact your campus for the commitment form if you don't have access to the internet.

Safety continues to be a top priority as the District implements a variety of safety measures to provide a safe learning environment, such as social distancing protocols, hand sanitizing stations, staggered shifts, multiple entry/exit points, and various other safeguards.

We encourage all parents to talk to their children about the importance of following the 3W’s: wash your hands, wear your mask, watch your distance. While it is essential to structure our campuses to protect students and staff, it is also imperative to take the necessary precautions at home, namely avoid social gatherings, wear face masks as appropriate, and practice good hygiene. These measures, combined with our schools’ safety efforts, will work to foster a healthy community, overall.

We aim to phase in everyones’ safe return to campuses with the noted safeguards. However, as we all have learned, this disease is unpredictable. Therefore, we stand ready to modify our plans in response to infection trends and guidance from health officials.
