Dr. Rico is being recognized as a contender for this prestigious award by the multinational technology conglomerate for his leadership and excellence in Cisco advocacy and innovation. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when students were allocated to remote or hybrid learning, under the leadership of Dr. Rico, Canutillo ISD enlisted Cisco wireless infrastructure to not only enable remote learning but provide the foundation for a truly digitized educational environment and greater community inclusivity. The District was able to bridge a digital divide and brought reliable internet access to the homes of Canutillo ISD students who lacked sufficient accessibility.

“It is a great honor and privilege to represent our District at a global stage. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of this department and our District,” Dr. Rico said. “There is no denying that 2020 was a trying time for educators and students and I am honored to work for a visionary leader and board that ushered an opportunity for our students to be digital citizens as well as remove any exclusionary barriers that prevented connectivity thus furthering the education gap for those in most need. Canutillo ISD continues to be the premier District.”

Cisco will celebrate the advocacy achievements of nominees alongside some of the company’s most engaged customers and partners during a ceremony on Nov. 4. For more information on the Cisco Global Advocate Awards 202, visit the Cisco Global Advocate Awards landing page.
