Today, Canutillo ISD became the only traditional school district in the region to earn back-to-back ‘A’s in accountability.

For the second consecutive year, the District received an Exemplary Performance A-Rating with a grade of 91 in overall performance from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). This makes Canutillo ISD the highest rated among districts in Region 19.

District leaders are determined to keep the momentum going.

“Our continued success is due to teachers and staff willing to take risks and put the energy and passion into their work to let the students know how important their education is,” Canutillo ISD Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz said. “This year, our goal is to sustain the A and continue to keep kids in the forefront.”

The A–Through–F accountability system, introduced during the 85th Texas Legislature, gives districts and schools an overall rating based on performance in three different areas or domains: Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps. Elementary and middle school ratings are based entirely on performance on the STAAR test. High school ratings consider college, career and military readiness and graduation rates.

“Our A-rating is due to the enthusiasm, innovation, and advocacy our teachers and staff bring to work every day," Board of Trustee President Sergio Coronado said. “Our Superintendent Dr. Galaviz always emphasizes teamwork and a 'students first' mindset to continue moving our district forward and improving the outcomes for all of our students.”

This year, Canutillo ISD celebrates 60 years since its establishment in 1959 and continues to venture for even more opportunities to grow and excel.
