Canutillo High School Principal Teresa Clapsaddle has been named the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) District IX Administrator of the Year. Clapsaddle was surprised by the award at their Trans-Pecos Association of Student Councils District IX Spring Conference Thursday, March 25.

“I was shocked at the announcement today,” Clapsaddle said. “Our advisor Ms. Carolina Lopez is an amazing leader. It’s a big honor to be nominated by her, the assistant principals, and our staff for this award. It means a lot.”

Teresa ClasaddleMs. Clapsaddle’s support has helped CHS achieve Outstanding Student Council four consecutive years and become a TASC sweepstakes council. She says that pre-COVID, she always traveled with the student council to their conferences to support them and build rapport with the kids and other advisors around the TASC district.

“This helps bring deserved recognition to our school district. (Canutillo ISD Superintendent) Dr. (Pedro) Galaviz allows us to excel and be a part of not only the kids’ academic activities but also their extracurricular activities as well. Student Council is about character and leadership. I love to do what I do every day."

AP World History teacher Carolina Lopez serves as the CHS Student Leadership and Student Council advisor. She says that Ms. Clapsaddle has remained their biggest supporter and that she is a woman of great integrity and high expectations for not only her staff but their students. Even through a computer screen, she is very quick to build a rapport with students, which helps her when she holds them to such a high standard.

“At the heart of Student Council, is the need to serve and that is reflected within our own Principal,” Lopez said. “She is always thinking of her staff and students. For Student Council, she is the first to volunteer her time to any cause that we come up with. She selflessly serves our campus and community, all to ensure that her students get the most out of their high school experience.”
