Students got their own shopping spree at the new West Towne Marketplace Walmart on Thursday morning as part of the Give ‘em a Boost program that benefits people living in the Westway community. Westway, which is served by Canutillo ISD, has a high rate of students who are low-income.

Students on Thursday had a $60 budget to spend on back-to-school essentials such as clothing and school supplies.

“Canutillo is a premier district because its students are ready to learn from the first day of school,” said Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz. “Thanks to our partners at Walmart, and St. Francis on the Hill, we know that all of our kids will have the tools they need to kick off the school year right.”

Give ‘em a Boost is an outreach funded by many individuals who make small and large donations. Walmart gave a 10% discount on all student purchases while Canutillo ISD provided the transportation for the trip.
