The Canutillo Independent School District began its commencement celebrations on Friday, May 25, at the Magoffin Auditorium with the graduation ceremony of Northwest Early College High School. Seventy nine Griffins crossed the stage to receive their diploma. Collectively, the Class of 2018 earned over $4 million in scholarships and grants.

This year’s valedictorian is Kimmi Wingin Sin, the Future Business Leaders of America president with over 160 community service hours. Kimmi will attend the University of Texas at Austin and will major in biochemistry. Salutatorian Christine Marie Garza plans to attend New Mexico State University where she will major in Mathematics.

It is a special time for Northwest Early College High School as they celebrate their 10-year anniversary and all of their success as an exemplary institution in the Canutillo Independent School District. Northwest made the U.S. News & World Report's list of Best High Schools in the country in 2018, 2017 and 2016. Northwest has been nominated by the Texas Education Agency for the 2018 National Blue Ribbon School honor in the Exemplary High-Performing category.

Most recently, NWECHS has been named to the 2017 - 2018 Educational Results Partnership Honor Roll for its high achievement and student success.
