CISD Names CTE, Food Service Directors, Dr. Oscar Rico as Principal at AMS

The District recently named Dr. Oscar Rico as Principal of Jose J. Alderete Middle School. He is entering his 14th year of experience as a professional educator.

Dr. Rico began his career as an educator and high school football coach in 2003 at Clint High School followed by a seven-year tenure at Parkland High School in Ysleta ISD. During his time as a high school Science teacher, Dr. Rico taught Biology and was inspired to become an instructional leader.  He served as an administrator for the past four years in El Paso ISD, most recently as an assistant principal at Franklin High School.

"It is an honor to be the new principal of Alderete Middle School,” Dr. Rico said. “In its 11-year history, the campus has built a tradition of academic excellence that is supported by its amazing faculty and staff.  This year will be a paramount year at the campus and I look forward to working with all the staff, students, parents and the community as we continue to make AMS the best!"
 
Dr. Rico holds several degrees and most recently completed a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at El Paso.  He defended his dissertation, titled “Mexican American High School Dropouts: A look at nine personal attributes that place students at risk”, in 2011.  His work on at-risk students has been showcased at national conferences in 2011 and 2012.

Tracy AndrewsEarlier this summer, Canutillo ISD named Tracy Andrews Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE). Mrs. Andrews has more than 20 years’ experience in public education. She began teaching CTE courses in Ysleta ISD at Bel Air High School in 2006 and also taught at Valle Verde Early College High School where she earned the distinction of 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year. Most recently, she served as the Dean of Students at Northwest Early College High School in Canutillo ISD from 2014 to 2017.

“It is my pleasure to be working with the students, parents, faculty and community of Canutillo,” Andrews said. The CTE Department is dedicated to improving and expanding opportunities through rigorous, relevant courses and developing academic, technical and employment skills for high-wage, high-skill, high-demand positions. CTE plays a vital role in developing a well-educated workforce that supports productivity and innovation with an emphasis on college and career readiness,” she added.

Mrs. Andrews holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources Management from Park University and a Masters of Education in Academic Administration with Mid-Management Certification from Sul Ross State University. She also has served as the Area Advisor and State Board Member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), a national student organization. 

Marco MaciasThe District also recently selected Marco Macias as Food Service Director. He previously served as food service warehouse assistant in Canutillo from 2013 to 2016 and more recently Child Nutrition Manager in Anthony ISD. Macias earned a Master in Business Administration with Emphasis in Management and Leadership from Webster University in 2015.

“I am dedicated to meeting the nutritional needs of our students by providing quality meals with exceptional customer service,” Macias said. “I am very diligent in maintaining food safety and sanitation standards and I will ensure that every child receives tasty, nutritious meals.”
