Abraham Cuevas received the award after being nominated by his English teacher, Pat Gallardo, for displaying valuable characteristics. The Honorary Jr. Sheriff Deputy Award is presented to students who represent the true values that characterize the Sheriff’s Office: Excellence, Integrity, Teamwork, Trust, and Respect.

Gallardo says that when she first met the 7th grader, she was immediately impressed by his dynamite smile, courtesy and enthusiasm for new school adventures. He already exhibited many of the qualities that we all hope our children will learn and take into the world to succeed in today’s society. He used those strengths to overcome some academic challenges he faced this year, she added.

“In talking about Abraham’s honor, I realized that many people in CISD have played a role in his journey,” Gallardo said. “His triumph is our triumph as well.”
