The Canutillo Independent School District hosted a STEM Expo and Robotics Challenge at Congressman Silvestre and
Carolina Reyes Elementary School
Friday, May 20, 2016. This event offered students the opportunity to explore the many
STEM careers and gave them the chance to display their skills to their peers and parents.
“This is aligned to our mission and vision of providing our students with 21st Century learning
opportunities and experiences that will challenge them and prepare them with the readiness skills
needed for college and careers,” said Dr. Debra Kerney, principal of Reyes Elementary School.
“Students have overwhelmingly surprised us with their openness and enthusiasm with regard to our
various STEM experiences. This has helped us to level the playing field by challenging students in new
ways as they discover new skill sets and interests that they may be unaware that they have."
The event featured presentations from corporate and
community partners, hands-on activities and other projects by students from throughout the school district.
Congratulations to Deanna Davenport Elementary for winning the Superintendent’s Cup robotics competition!
