Anisa Burciaga, a sophomore at Canutillo High School, has qualified for the Texas State Cross Country Championships in the Austin area next weekend – the first Eagle to do so in several years.

Burciaga qualified to the tournament by running the 3.2-mile course in 18 minutes and 39 seconds. She is one of just a handful of runners from the region to make it to the state tournament.

“Anisa is on a class by herself. She is a great runner and a great representative for Canutillo,” said CHS Cross Country Coach Raymond Amador.  “She’s just a sophomore and she’s already running at a high level. I can only imagine what she will do as a junior and senior.”

Anisa ran the second fastest time in the District tournament and she has placed in several other local competitions this season.  She’s part of the CHS Cross Country team that is seen as an up-and-coming team in El Paso.

The Cross Country State Championships will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
